Jo has experience spanning start-ups to listed corporates; having operated locally, regionally and globally. She has joined Kearney as a Senior Advisor, chairs the CAFSA board, is on the 30% CSA SteerCo, Sanari Growth Partners’ Advisory Board, and South African Advisory Board for Women In Tech.
Prior to this, Jo was the Group CFO of iOCO, Group CFO at Bowmans, consulted to Texton Property Fund Ltd, was an Executive Director and Group CFO for TIH, Africa CFO for Standard Chartered Bank and member of the Global Finance Management Group, Executive Director and CFO for Ubank Ltd, and Head of Finance for Barclays Africa, Middle East and Indian Oceans. She’s has also held non-executive, independent director roles on a number of local, regional and international boards.
Jo is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA) and FCCA), a Professional Banker of the Institute of Bankers in SA (PBSA), a Certified Financial Officer (SA), and a member of SAIBA and the IOD with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Wales and completed an executive development programme with the University of Oxford – Said Business School.
A finalist in the Financial Services : Banking Sector CEO Magazine’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards in 2010, she is part of the South Africa Boss of the Year alumni for 2013, was identified by Euromoney as one of Africa’s top 20 rising stars in 2014 and is a member of the African Leadership Network (ALN) class of 2015, and won the overall Positive Role Model Award and Trailblazer category at the Gender Mainstreaming Awards in 2019.
She is highly principled and passionate about empowering people and philanthropy. She counsels cancer patients, works with entrepreneurs, is a member of the 30% Club Southern Africa Steering Committee and an adjudicator for the GMA awards, serves on the ACCA member network panel, and supports the One Young World National Organising Committee. She has been a sponsor and mentor on the Global Women in Leadership and Africa Emerging Leadership Programmes, mentored on the Black Entrepreneurship Initiative and served on SAICA’s (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) Initial Professional Development and Exam Committees and has adjudicated the Technology Top 100 (TT100) awards and CFO case study.
She is married to a Zimbabwean born entrepreneur, has four children, is genuinely curious and enjoys learning, traveling, art, history and motorbike riding.
