In 2015, Sally Hutton became the first woman to be elected as the managing partner of a major South African law firm.
She is a private equity specialist and has acted in most of South Africa’s highest profile private equity transactions over the past 25 years. She advises on all aspects of merger and acquisition transactions (both public and private) for private equity funds.
Her expertise has been recognised by various international research organisations including Chambers Global, Legal 500, IFLR1000, Who’s Who Legal and Best Lawyers (where she was named “Lawyer of the Year” for Private Equity in 2010 and 2018). She was honoured with the “Woman Professional of the Year” award at the 2016 South African Professional Services Awards and received two awards at the 2018 South African Professional Services Awards, namely “Professional of the Year – Law Class” and the highly coveted “South African Professional of the Year – Overall Winner”.
Sally has BA degree (cum laude) and an LLB degree (magna cum laude) from the University of Cape Town and an LLM degree (cum laude) from the University of the Witwatersrand. She also has a Master of Studies from the University of Oxford. She completed an executive education programme on Leading Professional Services Firms at Harvard Business School in 2012.
