Russell has run Durban Metro’s Investment Authority, known as “Invest Durban”, for 20 years. He’s a past & current Non-Exec Director of various Org’s such as the Durban Chamber of Commerce, the Durban Auto Cluster, & the Institute of Directors, KZN where he remains qualified as a Certified Director. Russell has served on The Mercury Editorial Board, plus the Boards of other Commercial Co’s & Non-Profits. Internationally, he sat on the UN Investment Advisory Council 2008/9, & 2016/17. Russell was also a Member of the Millenium Cities/World Bank Expert Advisory Group on City Investment. He has been a UN World Investment Forum invited Speaker in 2010, 2014, 2016, & 2018. He holds the degree of Chartered Associate, Institute of Bankers SA, a Post Grad Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Wales, & an MBA (Essentials) from the London School of Economics. Russell is a devout Christian with over 30 years Business experience in the Corporate Banking, Financial Services, & Investment Advisory industries, whilst remaining active on various Social Justice, Developmental, and Philanthropic platforms. He’s married to Faye, a qualified Social Scientist, and they have 2 children currently studying at University.
