I have 39 years of experience in public, not-for-profit and private healthcare organisations and have served in leadership roles for the past 34 years. I have managed leadership teams of between 10 and 45 professionals and am also a practicing academic and pro bono coach and mentor. I have served on numerous CSI projects in the education and health care sectors. I am currently the Managing Partner of a Boutique Healthcare Consultancy – Extraordinary Hospitals of Africa.
I spent 5 years with the Lenmed Group promoting and facilitating their Brand exposure and their Africa strategy. I was the Hospital General Manager of the largest private hospital in South Africa for 9 years from 2007 to 2016. I was the first woman to lead the Hospital in its 120 years of existence. I joined the private healthcare sector having worked in public and not for profit healthcare prior.
Prior to my career in the private healthcare sector, I was the first woman to be appointed as Director of Labour Relations in the public service. I was also the first woman to chair the Education Labour Relations Council of South Africa, and the first woman to lead a bargaining team at the Health Sector Bargaining Council in South Africa.
My doctoral thesis “The case for an executive coaching model for Healthcare” was published as a book in 2012 and is the only book worldwide to provide an executive coaching model specific to healthcare. I am an advocate for the advancement of all healthcare leaders established and aspiring and mentoring aspiring executives is my passion.
The invaluable experience gained caring for the most vulnerable members of South African society who presented for care, along with my level of emotional intelligence, my passion for social justice and my remarkable ability to show compassion for those less fortunate has placed me in a position to use my skills to the benefit of my community. As a result of my 39 years of service to the South African community I has received numerous awards during my career and am widely recognized as one of South Africa’s most influential women in healthcare and a positive role model.
