Bertina’s industry experience is wide-ranging, having worked her way up the corporate ladder in the petrochemical, the aviation, transportation sector, consumer goods and deep-sea fishing industries. She is deeply committed to public service and has served for two terms of office on the Audit Committee of the City of Cape Town (the last term as the Deputy Chairperson). She holds a masters’ degree in Commercial Law from UCT, has completed a Management Development Programme through the US Business School and the Ethics Officer certification offered by Ethics SA in partnership with the USB.

In 1989, Bertina was admitted as an attorney of the Supreme Court of SA; she is an affiliate member of the IIA (SA), a member of the IoDSA, a member of the Business Women’s Association and was certified as a Master HR professional by the SABPP in 2020.

Bertina credits her success to the many selfless mentors who continue to nurture her. In her charitable endeavours, she supports education focused on the development of girls at the secondary and tertiary educational level.
