Bertina is the CEO of the Clicks Group Limited a Top 40 JSE-listed company and the market-leading health and beauty retailer in the Southern African market. She is the first female CEO in the company and one of just a handful of female executives heading up a listed SA entity.
Prior to her appointment as the CEO, Bertina served as the Group Corporate Affairs Director and as the Group HR Director. She joined the company in 2006 as a member of the 4-person group executive team and was elevated to the Main Board as one of three executive directors of the Clicks Group in 2008.
Bertina currently serves as non-executive director of the UN Global Compact SA and of the Consumer Goods Council of SA. She joined the University of Stellenbosch Council in September.
Bertina’s industry experience is wide-ranging, having worked her way up the corporate ladder in the petrochemical, the aviation, transportation sector, consumer goods and deep-sea fishing industries. She is deeply committed to public service and has served for two terms of office on the Audit Committee of the City of Cape Town (the last term as the Deputy Chairperson). She joined the board of Kagiso Trust Investments (Pty) Ltd as a non-executive director from 2008 to 2011 where she served on the Audit Committee as well as the Remuneration Committee. As of 2018, she is the Ethics Officer of the Clicks Group.
She holds a masters’ degree in Commercial Law from UCT, has completed a Management Development Programme through the US Business School and the Ethics Officer certification offered by Ethics SA in partnership with the USB.
In 1989, Bertina was admitted as an attorney of the Supreme Court of SA; she is an affiliate member of the IIA (SA), a member of the IoDSA, a member of the Business Women’s Association and was certified as a Master HR professional by the SABPP in 2020.
Bertina credits her success to the many selfless mentors who continue to nurture her. In her charitable endeavours, she supports education focused on the development of girls at the secondary and tertiary educational level.
