Event topic:
Advancing Inclusive Growth through South Africa’s 2025 G20 Presidency
About the event
You are cordially invited to a pivotal breakfast meeting hosted by the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) in the context of South Africa’s 2025 Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20). This gathering presents a significant opportunity to position inclusive economic growth, gender equality, and disability inclusion at the forefront of global policy discourse.
South Africa’s G20 Presidency aligns with international frameworks including the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This leadership role aims to drive systemic transformation in favour of women, youth, and persons with disabilities across the globe.
Under the stewardship of DWYPD, two priority working groups will anchor South Africa’s efforts:
- Empowerment of Women Working Group (EWWG): Building on the momentum of Brazil’s 2024 Presidency, this group will focus on the care economy, financial inclusion, and addressing gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
- Disability Inclusion Initiative (DII): A newly established platform to embed disability inclusion across G20 processes, with an emphasis on ensuring the voices of women and youth with disabilities are heard and prioritised.
Objectives of the Breakfast Meeting:
- Engage the private sector to invest in and support South Africa’s G20 agenda, particularly the work of the EWWG and DII.
- Demonstrate the socio-economic value of advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and disability inclusion.
- Establish sustainable, long-term partnerships that extend beyond the 2025 Presidency to ensure meaningful implementation of G20 commitments.
- Public–private collaboration is essential to delivering inclusive and sustainable development. This event provides a strategic platform for stakeholders to help shape a lasting G20 legacy rooted in equity, dignity, and shared prosperity.
